Is the two processor dual core route, pretty much equal to the single processor quad core, or is the new Nehalem quad (current technology) the best for my purposes. I've seen speed results but these are not for FCP and Compressor file rendering. I'm probably leaning towards a quad, however, there are used units with two dual core processors, ones with a single quad processors and new the latest Nehalem.

Therefore, given limited $$ resources can anyone suggest a maximum bang for the buck Mac Pro to run with FCP 6.06/Compressor so that I'm not waiting a year for a render to finish. But I'd still like to hold onto the G5 for other still photo work.

M hope was to be able to edit in HD produce a Blu-Ray and then knock down to SD and output through the same program as DVD make my two masters and be on my merry way ithout going to an outside service which I could not justify doing. With respect to the Blu-Ray authoring I purchased Toast 10 titanium several months back and will if needed have to use it, unless Apple comes through with either a separate add on or upgrade to DVD Studio Pro, but I guess I won't hold my breath for that one. Yes, as many of you have suggested I will be will well served by trying to import all in one format so as to eliminate exta render times. By the way, two of the cameras(the EX3 and the JVC film exclusively in 1920X1080) and so my import problem with mixed formats is between my one Sony (Z5U) HDV and the other two comeras. First of all, thanks for your responses to my earlier post regarding my frustrations with editing in Final Cut Pro and using compressor.Ĭompressor is now running, and I'm starting to mve forward in my capture and import from the various cameras into FCP.
