Oh, and it has to perk the coffee in the morning too. The question? IF I did this, what pickups would be best for Classic Rock, the Blues, an occasional foray (sp?) to the Led Zep kinda' stuff and maybe some other hard and metal rock? Think of a range of Eric Clapton to Jimi Hendrix to CCR to ZZ Top to the Rolling Stones to Jimmy Page (the least important). If I was gettig Seymour Duncans, I'd probably go for the JB (b) and '59 (n), or maybe a Custom / Custom 5, or Alnico II Pros, etc. This would be my "best" guitar, and I probably would want to go a little conservative on the pickups. To get the "fat" LP kinda' sound, I'd be choosing Mahogany Body and Neck with a Flammed Top on the Body to get the same look that I had known and loved Both the DC-127 and DC-200 come standard with an Ebony Fretboard, which I think would be just enough "brightness" to offsett the "darkness" of the Mahogany. If I added Coil Tapping as an option, perhaps then I would be closer to Guitar Nirvana. Then I realized that if I got the DC-200, it would have the active electronics of Cream Cheese & Jelly along with Phase IN/OUT and Pickup Pan (I call it Balance). I was looking at Carvin's site and realized that a DC-127 in white, if they could do the purple burst thing (their dark purple is about right), would look very close to Cream Cheese and Jelly. I've also been trying to figure out what I want to add to my collection (Martin D-18, Ovation Legend 12-String, Raven H-S-H, and soon to be added Fender Strat Highway 1) for that "ballsy, Les Paul, type of sound, especially from the bridge position. I didn't realize until recently that this was not the "normal" setup. She also had a very sweet tone, and was active electronics with bass and treble pots. As you might have guessed from her name, it was all white with a smallish purple burst that showed the wood grain. Thanks.Īfter wrestling with what the "perfect" guitar for me is, I finally had a "revelation". Those guys are really good and know their stuff and will give you all the time you need to ask away. Also, you can call up Carvin directly at their 800 number and when prompted, request a guitar specialist and when someone answers, ask specifically for Sean or Marco and tell them Boggs referred you and ask away any question you may have. You can also e-mail me at and converse that way. Let me know what characteristics you are looking for and what woods you will be using for the guitar and I may be able to help you. Dave, you may want to reopen another thread on this to avoid hijacking this one.
